Construction Week 2017 (Oct. 2-6)
Developed by the Master Builders of Iowa (MBI), and adopted by the MCA, Construction Week is a nation-wide effort created to raise awareness of the career options available in the construction industry and to promote the industry as a safe, exciting and rewarding employment path. This is an opportunity for MCA members to make valuable connections with students, parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
Construction employs about 26,000 people statewide and accounts for about $3 billion of Montana’s Gross Domestic Product. Despite the substantial influence the construction industry wields in our state, MCA members struggle on a daily basis with attracting new, skilled employees. According to the AGC’s 2017 Construction Outlook, 73 percent of firms struggle to find qualified employees. Your business can be part of the solution!
Want to get involved? How-to guide
To help MCA members make meaningful connections with students and educators in their communities, the MCA has developed and compiled the following "tool kit."
Refer to this list to make contact with the schools in your area and schedule a time for you to visit a classroom, and present to the students about construction as a career. Not sure how to start that conversation? Refer to these talking points to make your ask to visit with students a little easier.
Need help deciding what to say to a room full of students? Never fear. If you don't feel comfortable creating your own presentation, use one of these:
Remember, there's no one better than someone who loves their job in construction to share that enthusiasm!
In order to make sure the word that "Construction Rules!" is getting out in communities in Montana, we'd like you to alert the media in your area (newspaper, tv) about your school visits when you get them scheduled. Use this sample press release to let them know about your efforts, or just pick up the phone and give them a call.
Social media is a big part of how almost everyone communicates these days. The MCA will be posting Construction Week-related items on its Facebook and Twitter pages. Feel free to re-post anything we put out there and to have your business's social media guru post your own information.
Another great resource for Construction Week information, doodads, etc. is the Master Builders of Iowa's Construction Week web page. Anything we don't have to help you with your Construction Week effort here, they have on their website.
Be sure to let Carolynn know about any Construction Week activities you are able to coordinate. We'd love to have your pictures and other information to share with MCA members.
